Although 94% of consumers consider their digital content to be valuable, 42% have lost digital photos, music, films or movies some time in the past. This is one of the findings from a large-scale investigation into the use of digital content held by Sitecom among more than 5,000 consumers in 11 European countries. With the Home Storage Center from the Smart Living range, Sitecom responds to the demand for a user-friendly solution which allows the end user to easily organize, manage and securely save digital photos, movies and music. The Home Storage Center makes it possible to save digital photos, music and movies in a central location in the network and to share this content with all the other home users. Just as with all the other Smart Living solutions, the Home Storage Center excels in ease of use, so that even inexperienced users can use it straight away.

The Home Storage Center guarantees maximum security for valuable digital photos, music and movies. It has two drive bays in which two 3.5 SATA II hard disks can be installed without the need for screws or tools, thanks to the advanced tray system. If the user installs two hard disks of the same size in the tray system, the Home Storage Center will be automatically configured for Mirroring (Raid 1). The Sitecom Home Storage Center then automatically makes the second disk a backup disk, which is the safest way of saving digital content. If one of the two disks crashes, then the content is still available on the other disk.

Furthermore, the Home Storage Center automatically creates a copy of new digital files that are saved on desktop PCs and notebooks in the network, so that the user always has a backup of the most recent files.

The Home Storage Center has a USB 2.0 port to which a USB device (hard disk or flash drive) can be connected. The storage device’s content is copied to the Home Storage Center by simply pressing the back-up button. This functionality also makes it possible to connect a digital camera and to copy your holiday photographs to the Home Storage Center at the push of a button. An added advantage is that all members of the family will have access to the files.

The new rules put the onus on broadband customers to ensure their connections are not used to download pirated music and films. About eight million users leave their wi-fi networks unsecured. Those that do not adequately secure them could be fined hundreds of pounds or have their internet disconnected if someone else uses their network for illegal downloads.

Dozens of innocent internet users in the UK have already had letters from lawyers seeking payment of up to £600 after allegedly downloading games and films of which they have never heard.
