ROCCAT™ Kave Solid 5.1 Gaming Headset release date now fixed
It differs from other headsets in this category as the Kave 5.1 Gaming Headset doesn’t offer virtual 5.1 surround sound – it offers real 5.1 surround sound, plus an on/off switchable vibration function. Thanks to the four speakers arranged at 12° angles in each earcup, sound is reproduced accurately and three-dimensionally. This gives the ROCCAT Kave an audible superiority in terms of surround sound. As a result, it’s possible to determine precisely where each noise is emanating from – a decisive advantage in games. While others still grope around in the dark, ROCCAT™ Kone users get advanced warning. Even with films, the sound is gorgeously realistic and you feel like you’re right in the center of the action.
No distracting background noises will spoil your gaming or film enjoyment – they’re perfectly blocked out thanks to the snug-fitting, softly padded earcups.
The Tip’n’Control desktop remote offers convenient control over each of the sound channels (Center, Front, Rear and Bass) as well as control over the vibration function. The control unit lies flat on the desktop, which avoids the problem that lots of other in-line remotes have where the pull of the remote spoils the gaming experience. The ROCCAT Kave’s generously long cable also provides lots of freedom of movement. In addition, the control unit also allows the user to switch between ‘Game’ and ‘Movie’ sound profiles, whereby the audio channels are adapted to suit the respective medium. Both the headset sound as well as the microphone can be muted/unmuted at the touch of a button. When the mic is muted, a blue LED lights up on the tip of the mic – extremely useful, especially when communicating online during a game: gamers often wonder why they never get a response from their team members – they hadn’t realized they muted the mic when their cell phone rang… A cover prevents the sound settings from being accidently adjusted – except for the Master Volume and Mute buttons which remain easily accessible at all times.
The microphone is ultra flexible, can be rotated a full 360° and angled in any direction. When not in use, or when the headset needs to be carried anywhere, the microphone can simply be detached; it can then be re-attached to the headset later on just as quickly and easily.
With the ROCCAT™ Kave, particular value was placed on the high-quality finish: the hinges are made from aluminum and the earcup padding is hand-sewn. The size-adjustable headband’s three pads provide outstanding comfort and ensure weight is spread evenly across the head. At the same time, the headset remains adjustable, and can even be folded to a compact size for ease of carrying.
